Σοφοκλής, 496-406 BC ,  Ancient tragic poet
SophoclesPlaywright, dramatist, priest, and politician of Classical Athens; one of three great ancient Greek tragedians. He wrote over 120 plays, but only 7 have survived in a complete form: Ajax, Antigone, Women of Trachis, Oedipus Rex, Electra, Philoctetes and Oedipus at Colonus. He competed in 30 competitions, won 24, and was never judged lower than second place.
He was also a general for the Athenian army in the Peloponnesian Wars.
